NOT too long ago, two non-profit private hospitals in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, were debt-ridden and on the brink of closure. However, after a new team led by property developer Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock intervened, both hospitals managed to achieve a successful turnaround.

Now, they have decided to pay it forward by supporting the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital project in Kampar, Perak. Lee, who is chairman of both the Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Association (NSCMA) and Mawar Haemodialysis Centre (MHC), said the organisations were donating a total of RM200,000.

NSCMA owns the CMH Specialist Hospital while MHC owns the Mawar Medical Centre (MMC). “This is to reciprocate the support we received from the community when we faced a bleak future.

“Since both hospitals are now doing all right, it is time for us to help others with their noble projects,” he said at the MMC annual general meeting.

Construction of the RM330mil teaching and community UTAR Hospital on a 6ha plot started in 2018. This hospital will provide quality yet affordable healthcare services. As a teaching hospital, it will also provide clinical training for medical and health science students.

Lee’s team had also donated huge sums to keep СМН Specials Hospital and MMC operating to ensure the needy, including dialysis patients could continue to receive treatment at subsidized rates.

“At CMH Specialist Hospital, we set aside RM100,000 every month to help patients while at MMC, we currently provide aid on a case-by-case basis,” he said.

For the financial year ending March 2022, MMC gave cash aid worth RM451,000 to 169 patients. A new seven-bed VIP ward will open this month and 20 more beds will be added next year.

“Our mission to be an afordable healthcare provider remains unchanged and we will ensure our charges are competitive or lower than market rates.” he said. Lee added Matrix Medicare Sdn Bhd, which has been managing MMC for the past three years, had helped transform it into a vibrant community-based hospital.
